Life Stories

Privacy Policy

Last updated November 1, 2026. Life Stories is made by OneAtlas LLC.

The Short Version

  • Your family's stories are yours. We never sell them, show ads, or use them for anything but Life Stories.
  • Nobody is called until they've called us and said yes, and they can stop, leave anything out, or delete everything.
  • Recordings, photos and books are encrypted, and only the family you invite can see them.

What We Keep

  • Your account: your email address, and your name if you sign in with Apple or Google. Passwords are never involved.
  • The storyteller: their name and phone number, the call schedule you pick, and the year they were born if they or you share it. Only the person who set it up sees their phone number.
  • Their yes: our AI interviewer, Clara, never calls anyone until they have called us from that number and said yes (if their carrier can't confirm the call really came from that number, we call them straight back to confirm). If they don't within 14 days, the setup is deleted. Clara first asks their birth year: Life Stories is for adults, and a call with anyone under 18 ends at once, with nothing kept. We keep a record of each yes, no or stop (when, the words and the recording) as proof of what they chose.
  • The calls: each call is recorded (they're told at the start). We keep the recording, the transcript, a chapter an AI model writes from it in their own words, a short clip of their voice, and notes so Clara remembers what they've told her.
  • What the family adds: photos (each is checked by an AI model before it's saved, with no person looking, and anything sexual, graphic or hateful is refused and not kept; anyone in the family can report a photo, which hides it until the person who set it up keeps or removes it), questions for Clara, and short news read to the storyteller in a morning call once the person who set it up OKs it. Questions and news can't ask for money or codes, or carry numbers or links.
  • Books: if you order a printed book, we send the book and the shipping address to our printing partner, which prints and mails it. Its codes open a page that plays a clip of that chapter once the family's Book PIN is entered.
  • Your phone: a random ID the app makes for itself, its kind (iPhone or Android) and app version, and its notification address once you allow notifications. Never a device identifier.
  • Purchases: the App Store or Google Play handles payment; we keep only that a season was bought, and when.

How It's Protected

Recordings, photos and books are encrypted with a key of the storyteller's own before they're stored, and those keys are locked by a key kept outside our database, so a copy of the database alone can't be read. Our server opens them only to play them to the family or make the chapters and book. Links to recordings and photos expire. Only the family members the person who set it up invited (each invite code works once) can see the chapters, and the person who set it up can remove anyone.

Who Processes It

Your account and stories are stored with our database and hosting providers, who process them only to run Life Stories for us. Our telephone provider carries Clara's calls, and our voice AI provider runs her voice; each call passes through them, and we delete it from the voice provider once it's saved with us. An AI model provider writes each chapter from the call, and checks photos. Our printing partner prints and ships books that are ordered. Notifications are delivered by Apple and Google. Sign in with Apple and Google share only your name and email with us. We don't use any analytics or advertising companies.

The Storyteller Decides

  • They can ask for anything to be left out, and it isn't kept.
  • They can stop the calls (on any call, or by pressing 9 on a morning news call), and a number that asks to stop isn't called again by anyone until they call us and say yes.
  • They can have all of their stories deleted, just by saying so on a call.

Your Choices

  • Whoever set it up can delete a storyteller and everything about them at any time, in the app.
  • You can delete your account in the app, which deletes everything you set up.
  • We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
